On December 27, 2010, Andrew David Petersen, age 41 of Ocheyedan, Ia, pled guilty to Theft 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor. The Defendenat is to pay a fine of $365, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of 3 days, with all time suspended. On October 11, 2010, Petersen uttered a check to Kramer Appraisal Services in Spencer, IA which was not paid due to insufficient funds.

On December 27, 2010, an Osceola County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles in the alley south of 8th Street, off of 4th Avenue in Sibley. Following an investigation , Cody Wilson Dirks, age 19 of Ocheyedan, IA was arrested for allegedly being a Person Under Legal Age and Interference with Official Acts, both Simple Misdemeanors. Nicholas Robert Pedley, age 19 of Ocheyedan, IA was arrested for allegedly committing Forgery, a Class “D” Felony, Person Under Legal Age and Interference with Official Acts, both Simple Misdemeanors. Kaitlyn Jordan Harms, age 19 of Ocheyedan, IA was given a citation for Person Under Legal Age and was released. Dirks was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $600 cash bond. Pedley was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $5,600 cash bond.
On December 22, 2010, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received information of a sexual assault and drug use at a residence in Ashton, IA. Deputies executed a search warrant at 321 East 3rd Street in Ashton. During the course of the search, officers uncovered multiple smoking devices, baggies with a green leafy substance believed to marajuana, and seeds believed to be marajuana seeds. Melissa Irene Begstrom, age 33 of Ashton was arrested for allegedly having Posession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Posession of Prescription Drugs, both serious Misdemeanors. Jason Roy Bergstrom, age 32 of Ashton, was also charged with allegedly having Posession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Posession of Prescription Drugs, both serious Misdemeanors; and Posession of Drug Paraphenalia, a simple Misdeameanor. Further Investigation into a sexual assault uncovered Jason Bergstrom to be a registered sex offender in Minnesota. Jason was also charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; and 2 counts of Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree, a Class “C” Flony. Jason Bergstrom was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $24,300 cash bond and Melissa Bergstrom was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond.
On December 15, 2010, Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies executed a warrant at 319 4th Ave in Sibley. During the execution of the warrant, Deputies located a green leafy substance believed to be marajuana and several items of drug paraphernalia. Paul Arthur Davids, age 20, Joshua David Welch, age 24 and Matthew Gene Hodapp, age 20 were placed under arrest and charged for alleged posession of a controlled substance, posession of drug paraphenelia, and prohibited acts. Davids and Hodapp were allegedly charged with persons under legal age while Welch was allegedly charged with supplying alcohol to minors. All offenders were transported to the Osceola County Jail and are being held on cash bonds.

Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Sibley will meet in regular session on December 13, 2010 at 5:00 o’clock PM in the Council Chambers, City Hall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 18th at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley. Burial will follow at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be Friday, December 17th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
Genieve W. Rolfes was born on October 25, 1918 at the family farm west of Little Rock, Iowa, the daughter of John and Jessie (Slight) Wiertsema. She attended country school and helped with the family farm.
On January 25, 1940 Jennie was united in marriage to Cornelius Rolfes. The couple remained living in the Little Rock area, while Corne helped his father-in-law and other various farmers in the area. In 1944 they moved to Anaheim, CA, where Corne worked on a dairy farm. They returned home and made their living doing various enterprises. In the early 60s, Jennie and Corne moved to Colorado where they owned and operated their janitorial business. In 1988 they retired and returned to live in Sibley, IA. On March 4, 1993, Jennies husband, Corne died after 53 years of marriage. Jennie remained active while raising various livestock on an acreage south of Sibley. In May of 2007, Jennie entered the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center, where she remained until this past Tuesday, December 14, 2010.
She will be remember as a quiet, strong, hard working women who enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her beloved animals.
She is survived by her daughter, Marge (Gary) Cruts of Pueblo, CO; her son, Robert (Sylvia) Rolfes of Sibley, IA; six grandchildren, Kimela Diamond of Pueblo, CO, Robin (Dan) Nassimbene of Colorado Springs, CO, Patsy (Doug) Weber of Ashton, IA, Mellisa (Layton) Gruis of Ellsworth, MN, Andrea (Mike) Block of Sibley, IA and Micheal Rolfes of Sibley, IA; nine great-grandchildren; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jessie Wiertsema; loving husband, Cornelius Rolfes; three sisters, Anna Kruger, Gracie Sprock and Hermina Janssen; and two brothers, George and Ralph Wiertsema.
John M. Timmermann, age 92 of Fort Dodge, IA, formerly of Sibley, IA died Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Bickford Assisted Living in Fort Dodge, IA.
Memorial service will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley with Reverend Jim Berka officiating.
Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. The Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is handling arrangements.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, IA with Reverend Scott Burdsall, officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service private for family in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Little Rock, IA.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 12th from 2:00 8:00 with the family present from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
Joyce Elaine Moose was born on February 3, 1932, the daughter of John V. and Anna (Kruse) Kruse in Little Rock, IA. She grew up in Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1950. In 1951, she went to work for Dr. Thomas J. Carroll as a Lab Technician. On March 29, 1957, Joyce was united in marriage to Ralph E. Moose at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Ellsworth, MN. To this union two daughters were born, Barbara and Jana Moose. Joyce was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, where she was very active in the womens group and church choir. Joyce enjoyed music and playing the piano. She liked it when her neighbors would come over to visit and most of all she loved going to visit her sister, Shirley.
Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Barb (Mike) Schmidt of Denison, IA and Jana (Michael) Havlovic of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandsons, Daymon and Nolan Schmidt; one step-grandson, Elijah Havlovic; one sister, Shirley Knock of Sioux Falls, SD; and three nephews and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Moose; and two brothers, Everly and Donald Kruse.

On December 2, 2010, at 11:00pm, Timothy Helmers, age 55 of Sibley, Iowa, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup, westbound on Hwy 9, west of Hwy 60 and struck a deer on the roadway. Helmers’ vehicle sustained approximately $2,500 damage. No injuries were reported.
On December 2, 2010, at 5:50pm, Anthony Glassmaker, age 30 of Sheldon, Iowa, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup, westbound on Hwy 9, near the intersection of Sorrel Avenue and struck a deer on the roadway. Glassmaker’s vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 damage. No injuries were reported.
