Three cars and a forklift were involved in two recent Osceola County Accidents.

A Sibley woman’s pickup and a Sibley man’s parked car were damaged in an accident on Saturday (1/22).

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:30 PM, 53-year-old Mary Gacke of Sibley was driving a 1992 Ford Ranger pickup, eastbound on Forth Street Northeast, east of Twelfth Avenue in Sibley. Read The Full Story…

Arnie Ray Voss was born June 14, 1937 on a farm northwest of Sibley, IA the son of Mattie (Kruse) and John Voss. Arnie grew up on a farm and attended Viola Township Country School near Little Rock, IA. Arnie serviced his country in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home to northwest Iowa.

On January 21, 1966, he was united in marriage to Tillie Hinricks at Worthington, MN. Arine started his career in road construction, working as a loader operator for more than thirty-eight years. He worked for Brown and Legal Road Construction, Arcon Construction and later Southern Minnesota Construction for twenty years. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for over forty-five years.

Arnie was a caring and loving father, good brother and uncle. He enjoyed cutting wood and spending time with his family. Arnie died unexpectedly at his home Monday, January 24, 2010, at the age of seventy-three.

He is survived by his son, Eric Voss of Sibley, IA; four siblings, Willis (Twila) Voss of Little Rock, IA; Russell Voss of Little Rock, IA; Harris (Lois) Voss of Ellensburg, WA; and Marge (Ron) Buysman of Canton, SD; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arnie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Tillie.

 

The Osceola County Sheriff investigated a number of accidents and incidents and has also advised of some judgments recently.

A Sibley man’s vehicle was damaged in an accident on Tuesday (1/18) near Sibley. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 5:35 AM, 39-year-old Jose De Jesus Alvarado of Sibley was driving a 1997 Dodge van, eastbound on 170th Street, east of Hwy 60 and struck a large snow drift on the roadway. Alvarado’s vehicle spun around and entered the north ditch where it came to rest on its passenger side. Alvarado’s vehicle sustained about $3,500 damage.

Allen Wright Shannon, Sr. of Sibley, IA died January 9, 2011 at Osceola Community Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 15, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ashton, IA. The family will host a reception from 2:00 till 4:00 pm at The Cedar Cabin, Ashton, IA.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to benefit The St. Labre Indian School of Ashland, MT or- Catholic Charities in Sioux City, IA.

Shannon was a well known and respected musician, composer, and educator in the region over the past 50 years. He served as instructor and director of bands at West Lyon District High School, Sibley Community High School, and Little Rock Community Schools. His original compositions include the musical ICHABOD which was premiered by OFF, OFF Broadway Community Theatre of Sibley, IA. Shanny was a featured performer at many supper clubs in the resort community of the Iowa Great Lakes and was a regular fixture at The Cedar Cabin Supper Club since 1962.

He was born May 26, 1929 in Buffalo, NY. Shannon graduated from Huron College where he met and married his wife, Loretta (Christensen) in 1952. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter Patrice, and brother Richard. He is survived by 4 children: Suzanne (Brad) Morehouse, Clifton, VA Allen Shannon, Rochester, NY Joelle (Doug) LaSuer, Baxley, GA and Laurel (Dana) Timmerman, Sioux Falls, SD and 2 grandchildren, Stephen LaSuer of Stugis, SD and Zane Morehouse of Fairfax, VA.

On January 1, 2011, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Granstra, age 18 of Sheldon, Iowa for allegedly committing Public Intoxication, Person Under Legal Age in Possession of Alcohol, Criminal Trespass, Providing False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer, Creating an Immediate Safety Threat at Rail Road Crossing, and Failure to Maintain Control; all Simple Misdemeanors. 

An Osceola County Deputy stopped Granstra as he was walking northbound on NW Blvd by 12th Street in Sibley, Iowa.  During the stop the Deputy could smell an odor of alcohol on or about Granstra’s breath. 

After a short investigation, a vehicle the defendant was previously driving was found in a ditch off of NW Blvd by 190th Street.  The vehicle was located on Union Pacific property close enough to the tracks to cause a safety threat to the rail road.  Granstra was booked into the Osceola County jail and released after posting a $1,000 cash bond.

On January 3, 2011, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of sexual abuse committed against a twelve year old female. 

Following an investigation, Justin Jonathan Aaron Ringheimer, age 18 of Sibley, Iowa, was arrested for allegedly committing Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree, a Class “C” Felony.  Ringheimer was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $10,000 cash only bond.

On December 30, 2010, the Osceola County Sheriff’s office received a 9-1-1 call about an assault that took place at the Palms Bar in Ashton, IA.  Following an investigation, Neal Thoma Kruckenberg, age 53 of George, IA was charged for allegedly committing Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor.  Kruckenberg was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $300 cash bond and was later released on his own recognizance.

Also on December 30, 2010, Frederick Kurt Alexander Buckalew Sr, age 35 of George, IA pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1,797.50, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of 30 days, with 28 days suspended and placed on informal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of 2 years.  The Defendant shall undergo a substance abuse evaluation and comply with the treatments recommendations.  On December 4, 2010, Buckalew was stopped on 170th Street for an equipment violation.  An Osceola County Deputy could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage comin from Buckalew’s breath.  The Defendant failed sobriety tests and tested over .08 and was placed under arrest for public intoxication.

Finally on December 30, 2010, Derek Michael White, age 26 of Sibley, pled guilty to Driving Revoked, a Serious Misdemeanor.  The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1,450.00 the cost of this action and restitution to any court appointed fees, if any.  The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of 30 days with all time suspended and placed on informal probation with the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of 2 years.  On November 4, 2010, White was stopped in the 1000 block of 2nd Street NE in Sibley for a driving violation.  A check of White’s driving record confirmed White was revoked and he was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail for Driving While Revoked.
