David Behrens, age 66, of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, formerly of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on November 6, 2012 in Pittsburg.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley. Rev. Barbara Kopperud officiating.

Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Graveside Service and burial to follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, Iowa.

ashton water tower tank onlyAshton, Iowa — An Ashton man faces Animal Neglect charges after the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office paid him a visit.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that they filed Animal Neglect charges, against 38-year-old Cory Gene Osterbuhr of Ashton on Saturday (5/25). According to Sheriff’s officials, Osterbuhr allegedly had 15 horses and 3 dogs that were neglected.

The sheriff’s office reports they started the investigation after receiving an anonymous Text-A-Tip. The Sibley Veterinary Clinic assisted with the investigation.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have received over 90 anonymous Text-A-Tips since implementing the program in 2008.

Ambulance LightbarOcheyedan, Iowa — An Ocheyedan man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Ocheyedan on Saturday (5/25).

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 10:20 PM, 19-year-old Rachel Truke of Mapleton, Iowa was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero westbound on Highway 9, east of Tanager Avenue, about a mile north of Ocheyedan. Fifty-Seven-year-old Douglas Claus of Ocheyedan was driving a 2000 Dodge Stratus, eastbound on the highway, when he crossed the center line and collided with Trucke’s car.

Claus was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley by the Sibley Ambulance; Trucke refused medical attention at the scene.

The car Trucke was driving was owned by Shawn Nelson of Anthon, Iowa. It sustained about $8000 in damage. Claus’s car sustained about $7000 in damage.

Claus was cited for Failure to Yield Half the Roadway When Meeting A Vehicle.

Ocheyedan Fire and Rescue, Ocheyedan Ambulance, and Sibley Ambulance assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

Sibley, Iowa — On Monday, May 27, 2013, Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Lisa Jean Sargent, age 28, of Sioux Falls, SD, for allegedly assaulting another female in an apartment on 10th Street in Sibley, IA. Sargent was charged with Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor. Sargent was booked into the Osceola County Jail and held on a $300 bond.

The Generals of Sibley Ocheyedan held their first day team lead to win the State 1A boys golf title Saturday.

The Generals opened with a 344 Friday and trimmed that to a 329 Saturday for a two day total of 673. New London was next at 706 shooting a 347 followed by a 359. West Lyon held on to their third place finish from the first day of competition. The Wildcat fired rounds of 359 and 364 for a two day total of 723.

Ty Hanna of the Generals won state medalist honors with a 158 shooting rounds of 83 and 85. Grant Juber finished in a four way tie for third with rounds of 82-86 for a 168. Tristan Roetzel finished 8th with rounds of 87-86 for a two day total of 173. Joe Storbakken shot 88-93 for a 181 with Evan Mehls and Ethan Mino both at 184. Mehls carded a 92 for each day of the meet with Mino following a 98 on opening day with an 86 on the final day of state.

West Lyon was led by Brandon Snyder’s 7th place finish at 172 (84-88). Collin Snyder was next at 181 (91-90) followed by Dylan Whalen at 186 (95-91) and Cole Grotewold at 187 (89-98). Kyle Viereck shot a 194 (99-95) with Scott Erickson in at 199 (98-101)

 

In Class 2A Zach Elgersma of Western Christian followed a first day 80 with an 82 for a two day total of 162. Tyler Ohl of Okoboji followed an 86 with an 83 Saturday for a 169 total. The 2A medalist had rounds of 79 and 71 for a 150 total.

 

In Class 3A Ryan Christy of MOC Floyd Valley followed an opening round 80 with a 78 to finish in 5th place with a total of 158. the 3A medalist put together rounds of 80 and 75 for a 155 two day total.

JOEL HATTENDORF 2Joel L. Hattendorf, age 58, of Round Lake, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013, at Sanford Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Rev. Thomas Braun officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Horton Township, Ocheyedan, Iowa.

Visitation will Tuesday, May 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to Sanford Hospice Cottage, Worthington; Bethel Lutheran Church, Round Lake; Zion Lutheran Church, Ocheyedan; St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Worthington.

Osceola Sheriff Car 72-2Sibley, Iowa — The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in two separate incidents.

An Ocheyedan man was arrested on several charges after a 911 call late on Sunday (5/19).

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports their deputies arrested 39-year-old Troy Edgar Harris of Ocheyedan and charged him with Third Offense Domestic Abuse, a Class “D” Felony, Obstruction of Emergency Communication, a Simple Misdemeanor and False Imprisonment, a Serious Misdemeanor. The arrest stemmed from a 911 call made in the 5900 mile of 180th Street southwest of Ocheyedan.

A Sibley man was arrested a couple of hours later.

Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies report they arrested 29-year-old Cliff Edwin Garnett of Sibley after the communication center received a 911 call about Garnett breaking a window and entering a residence. Garnett was charged with Trespassing and Criminal Mischief, both Simple Misdemeanors.

A charge being filed is only an accusation, and those charged are innocent until proven guilty.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 22, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Sibley, IA with Rev. Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Family will receive guests at the church on Wednesday at the time of service.

Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is in charge of services.

law lightbar blueSibley, Iowa — A Sibley teen has been arrested on an assault charge.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Wednesday (5/15), one of their deputies arrested 18-year-old Thressa Weishuhn of Sibley. She is accused of assaulting a 20-year-old woman at the Sibley Central Park. She was charged with assault.

Weishuhn was booked into the Osceola County Jail with a $300 bond.
