Windom, Minnesota — An Ocheyedan man is apparently accused in a meat theft case involving at least $1.6 million worth of meat.

According to the website of the Cottonwood County (Minnesota) Citizen, 56-year-old Mark Stephen Engel of Ocheyedan is charged with two counts of theft by swindle, aiding and abetting. He posted a $5000 bail and was released.

The other defendants in the case are 35-year-old Juan Rodas-Barrios of Windom and 27-year-old Carlos Lopez-Rodas of Mountain Lake, Minnesota who are also charged with two counts of theft by swindle. Rodas-Barrios was released on bail of $10,000, and Lopez-Rodas is still in jail on a $10,000 bail.

The theft of the meat from the PM Windom beef packing plant is believed to have been an inside job, with shipments of premium cuts disguised instead as trimmings.
