A man loading a tractor on a trailer in Sheldon on Labor Day was transported to the hospital after the tractor flipped off the trailer, pinning him underneath. The tractor didn’t fare so well either and burst into flames.
The Sheldon Police Department identifies the man as 81-year-old Dallas Poss of Sibley.
Sheldon Fire Company Chief Jerry Meyer reports that about 4:20 PM on Labor Day the Sheldon Fire Company was called to the report of a tractor fire between the A & W and Perspective Insurance buildings.
He says the man was attempting to load an old tractor on a trailer when the tractor flipped off hitting the ground upside down and bursting into flames.
The gentleman trying to load the tractor was pinned under the tractor and was pulled to safety by others that were there. He was taken to Sanford Sheldon by SCAT.
A responding Sheldon fire fighter extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher he had, and the responding fire truck finished the job cooling the tractor with water.
Meyer says the Fire Company was on scene about 2 hours, and there is no damage estimate available.
