Just into Thursday morning, a little over a week ago, according to court records, 44-year-old Walter Norem assaulted his wife. Records show he broke out a window in her car, and told her she was coming with him. They also allege that Norem threw her to the ground. That caused scrapes and cuts on her knees and her chin. Then he took her back to his home in Harris, where the assault continued. He also would not let her use the phone or leave.
In addition to a class “A” felony count of kidnapping, Norem is also charged with false imprisonment, domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury, obstruction of emergency communications, and violation of a domestic abuse protective order.
He pled not guilty and remains in jail in lieu of a $52,000 bond.
Those convicted of class “A” felonies in Iowa face a maximum of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
