On December 22, 2010, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received information of a sexual assault and drug use at a residence in Ashton, IA. Deputies executed a search warrant at 321 East 3rd Street in Ashton. During the course of the search, officers uncovered multiple smoking devices, baggies with a green leafy substance believed to marajuana, and seeds believed to be marajuana seeds. Melissa Irene Begstrom, age 33 of Ashton was arrested for allegedly having Posession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Posession of Prescription Drugs, both serious Misdemeanors. Jason Roy Bergstrom, age 32 of Ashton, was also charged with allegedly having Posession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Posession of Prescription Drugs, both serious Misdemeanors; and Posession of Drug Paraphenalia, a simple Misdeameanor. Further Investigation into a sexual assault uncovered Jason Bergstrom to be a registered sex offender in Minnesota. Jason was also charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; and 2 counts of Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree, a Class “C” Flony. Jason Bergstrom was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $24,300 cash bond and Melissa Bergstrom was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond.
