Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

[1]United States — This is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Empire of Japan on Sunday, December 7, 1941, brought the United States into World War II. Iowa Governor Terry Branstad ordered all flags in Iowa be flown at half-staff today in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Seventy-one years ago today, early on a Sunday morning, a surprise attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy caught the Americans for the most part unaware. Over twenty-four hundred Americans were killed and over 1200 were wounded. All eight battleships were damaged, and four of them were sunk.

We at KIWA ask you to take a moment today and remember the sacrifices made by so many in this battle and in all battles for our freedom.
